1325 History & Background
Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) was unanimously adopted under the Namibian Presidency of the Security Council on 31 October 2000. It is a watershed political framework that makes women – and a gender perspective – relevant to negotiating peace agreements, planning refugee camps and peacekeeping operations and reconstructing war-torn societies. The Security Council has marked the anniversary of this resolution annually to reaffirm its commitment to the spirit of the resolution and to highlight progress made in the area of women, peace and security.
